VFU at Luleå University of Technology
Norrboten and Skellefteå constitute LTU's contract area. In each municipality there is one or
more coordinators. Collaboration between the parties in VFU is regulated in the Basic Agreement regarding
implementation of clinical placement (VFU) between LTU and the principal. The agreement
is revised at the end of each calendar year and takes effect in January of the following year.
Invoicing documentation for payment of VFU fees is emailed out at the end of each semester. The fee
is adjusted annually at the turn of the year based on the price and wage index.
The coordinator's responsibility
Since the VFU organizations look different at different principals, the coordinator
needs to create a functioning channel for information dissemination based on each principal's local
conditions. The coordinator is responsible for:
- have knowledge of the content of the VFU agreement and the collective agreement that applies to the teacher's
participation in the VFU, - have good knowledge of the business (schools and preschools) and of teacher training,
- inform their principals/preschool managers about VFU lectures and other information that
LTU emails out, so that the information reaches the supervisors, - inform about the supervisor training and encourage participation,
- assist administrators at LTU with supervisors for the students who are going out on VFU in different
specializations in the municipality (it is important that the correct e-mail address and telephone number of the supervisor
is filled in), - inform supervisors about the assignment and about the VFU website where all information is available, and
emphasize that the supervisor should be familiar with the VFU handbook, assessment documentation and
information even before the VFU period begins, - ensure that contacts with principals or other key persons are made in case there is a need for
placement of a student, - assist the VFU supervisor if problems arise with any student, have contact about it
with LTU and be a support for the student, - be a contact link between preschools / schools and LTU,
- participate in gatherings, such as coordinator meetings, that LTU invites to,
- check the invoicing documents that LTU sends out under the basic agreement against the number of
placements in the municipality and then ensure that the municipality invoices LTU for these fees, - call an annual information meeting regarding the VFU assignment (preferably early in the academic year),
- keep abreast of what is happening in teacher training, and
- inform the principal about updates in the placement activities The supervisor's responsibility:
- Receive students during the specified VFU period and inform about everyday routines that
the students need to know. Show teaching materials and other materials used in
the activities, - supervise the students, which means, with the course objectives as a starting point, being
a reflection partner, providing space and opportunity for discussion, making demands and
providing constructive feedback, - inform the student and course leader at LTU if there is a suspicion that one or more of
the objectives of the VFU course risk not being achieved, - inform the student(s) about the area, preschool/school/leisure time,
- read necessary documents and information from LTU's website (VFU handbook for the current
specialization, syllabus, supervisor letter, assessment material, etc,) - participate in introductory meetings before the start of the course,
- prepare and participate in any tripartite discussions (via technology or otherwise),
- evaluate the placement together with the student(s),
- make assessments and submit the assessment form to LTU according to current procedures.
- participate in meetings and seminars that LTU invites to, and
- undergo LTU's supervisor training. If a completed training is completed before
2011, a new supervisor training should be carried out.
Rector's responsibility:
- Create good conditions for VFU,
- in collaboration with the coordinator, appoint supervisors and create conditions for them to fulfill
their assignments. - keep informed about the VFU assignment,
- meeting and informing the student(s) about the school/principal's area during their
placement period, as well as providing the confidentiality form and communicating what confidentiality means - maintain regular contact with the coordinator.
Declaration of confidentiality
- During each placement period, the students must sign a
confidentiality agreement upon request. The school provides a form for this.
Register check (SFS 3008:53)
- A register extract is required for students who started their education after April 1, 2008.
- The register extract is valid for 1 year from the date of issue, since the students' education means that
they need to show the register extract several times a year, the extract will in some cases
not be handed over in a sealed envelope as otherwise applies to staff at the school. - The original is presented to and given to the supervisor on the first day of each placement period.
- The supervisor makes a copy and the original is kept by the student.
- The copy is sent to the coordinator who takes care of it.
