Citing
Use a reference guide to help you refer to the different sources you have used in your text. You can also use the web-based program RefWorks to help you write references and create citations and reference lists directly in your text.
RefWorks
RefWorks is a web-based reference management system that helps you write references in your text when you use multiple sources. RefWorks is available for all employees within Region Norrbotten.
With RefWorks you can:
- Collect and arrange your references
- Import references from different databases
- Insert source references and reference list to your text
Things to consider before you start using RefWorks:
- Allow pop-ups
- Two RefWorks accounts for the same text document will only work in Google Docs
- Do not use the Track Changes feature in Word when creating a reference list
Handling of personal data
When you create the account, you must accept ProQuest's terms for personal data processing and general terms, including that ProQuest and Luleå University of Technology may handle your name and e-mail address. Read the terms carefully.
It is not permitted to disseminate information that contains personal data. Therefore, avoid uploading files with recorded or transcribed interviews.

To use RefWorks in for example Microsoft Word or Google Docs you need to install plugins. There are several to choose from:
- Save to RefWorks is a bookmark that you can install in your browser's favorite fields (bookmarks). When browsing a site that has references that you want to add to your RefWorks account, click on the bookmark to save references and full texts. Save to RefWorks should work in all modern browsers.
- Write-N-Cite is a plugin that allows you to run a simplified version of RefWorks inside Microsoft Word.
- RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) is a newer and more modern version of Write-N-Cite .
- RefWorks for Google Docs is a plugin that allows you to use a simplified version of RefWorks inside Google Docs.
Note that you cannot use Write-N-Cite at the same time as RefWorks Citation Manager for the same document. Read more about RefWorks plugins via the links below. You can order Write-N-Cite for your regional computer through Region Norrbotten's intranet. Search for "RefWorks" in the search box, and you will find information on how to proceed.
