Collaboration between society, business and academia on sustainable urban development
Official visions, objectives and documents at all levels of municipal and regional planning are filled with policies aimed at achieving sustainable urban development.
Research has provided insightful knowledge on how to create such cities. There is also ongoing practical development of innovative forms of collaboration where society, business and universities work together at both regional and local levels to support economic development. However, actors and stakeholders in physical urban development often have different perspectives on sustainability. Consequently, it is complex to create forums and methods for discussion and development of processes, which support agreements on how to develop the physical design of our cities. However, there is a need for more knowledge about how the main actors act in real complex situations. The main research question in the project is; in what way can universities, municipalities, business and industry collaborate in planning processes to physically implement the general goal of a more sustainable urban development? The project has been carried out as an exchange with Chalmers Architecture and the research group "Built Environment and Sustainable Development" and the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, unit for "city and region".
